Test 5 help!

I've literally just dropped the bottom half of my n97 into a glass of water, and came searching online for some advice, the screen did exactly as it did in test 5, flickered and then turned off. I've taken out the battery and left it to dry near a radiator. Is there anything else i can do? - Ollie

Scratch Test Perfect!

Thanks for this really useful video - We currently have a customer that is saying that that the N97 screen scratches easily. This video proves how tough the screen and phone really is. I was surprised myself. We have high hopes for the new N97 mini and N900 due out in November and look forward to seeing those floating in cornflakes. Thanks guys. www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk - Karl

The Scratch Guard

I recently got a N97 and I see a lot of scratches on it. Are the scratches on the factory-fitted screen protector (the one with silver border) or are they actually on the screen? If I remove this protector, would the scratches disappear? - Deb

anyone else's screen scratched?

hmm...after taking the factory screen protector off i noticed that it already had a scratch on the screen about 2 inches along the side. how can you not have a scratch from a sharp key and i have it from the factory...sooo annoying to see and such a hassle to have to exchange that i'll probably just live with it. stupid screen... - Louie

Thank you for those stress tests. But honestly, why the hell don't you torture the open/close mechanism? It should even work perfectly after 2 years of use ! - Alex1337

Great Nokia n97 video review

Check out this video review of the Nokia N97.
It's probably the best video review i've seen.
A very detailed review with a touch of humour aswell.

Also notice the Nokia N97 vs. Touch Pro2 lightsabers at the end of part 2.

When i said makeup test i mean when you talk ob the phone,
The screen always seems to get make up on it from touching your face,
just wondering if it will ruin the phone or if make up can be removed?
thanks - Cassandra

@ Bobby Shafto

That is interesting. You are indeed correct. I am a little annoyed I did not spot that during the test. That being said tho, we dropped the phone several times over them 2 days and at least 2 or 3 times from head height on pavement. Every single time with that 'combo' we had the same result... the back coming away and the battery spilling out. Never did the back come off on any of the other combos at any time. So, yes you are right that the back was not snapped closed properly, but imho - it would not have made a difference on the evidence of previous drops. - Kenny

Great videos!

Just wanted to mention one thing.

You didn't notice in your video, but the back cover came slightly loose after the hip-height drop test on pavement. You did not snap it back on firmly, you can see this just after 3.20 on the video. Perhaps this is why the back cover came off completely after the final drop.

A very robust phone though! - Bobby Shafto

N97 washing machine test?

Hi, would just like to suggest another test (if its not too late). What about dumping it into a running washing machine with all the water and all the detergent? This was done by someone with the Nokia 5800 before and the (now rather famous) video of it is somewhere on the internet, I believe. - Jack Lee

the final test

Thanks to the internet, only one N97 in the world had to go through such agonizing tests.

As for final tests, here are some suggestions:
* slamming a car door shut with the N97 in between (suggested by a colleague of mine)
* driving over it with a really large aeroplane or other vehicle (not original)
* a just married version dragging an N97 along the back of a car for a couple of miles

And of course, there is the final test. Will it blend? (willitblend.com).

wow - Its really an honor to have our blog and video featured on the front page of a great site like Engadget. It proves that even tho what we did was crazy :P People are interested as to how the phone stood up. We have more tests planned tomorrow - we aint finished with that phone yet! We've had a few people asking if it will blend... Well maybe it will :P - Kenny

I just saw this posted on Engadget and its a great set of tests. Agonising for any tech fan to watch but a real show if the build quality of the N97!

How about once you're finished testing it you whack it on eBay for a charity auction? The famed, stress tested N97!

Keep up the good work!

Paul, please do same tests for iphone, palm pre, blackberry (with touch screen). Man at least with iphone. I wish to see how their capacitive "unscratchable" screen works this out. - Yury
