I started Ovi Suite after a long time. It gives me an error now 'This version not compatible with the PC. Please uninstall it or upgrade the same with Nokia Ovi Suite (PC Connectivity Solution 8.15)

I tried to download the nokia ovi suite from nokia's website. However the problem prevails. I also uninstalled the existing Ovi suite applications and reinstalled from the CD which i got when i bought my phone.

As a result i am unable to back up my data. Anyone know any solution to my problem? I am using Windows Vista basic operating system on my laptop.

What operating system are you using?

Have you tried uninstalling all applications from your PC which relate to OVI suite or Nokia. There are connectivity drivers etc that are installed by the initial OVI suite installation that are not removed by uninstalling OVI Suite.

Yes I have uninstalled OVI suite using the 'Ovi suite uninstaller software'. I also tried to reload the ovi suite from the original CD which i got when i purchased my N97. However, i get the same error. Thereafer, i again uninstalled the ovi suite and all its applications and downloaded ' Nokia PC suite', which another friend of mine is using to backup his N97 data on laptop.

However, Nokia PC suite does not detect my handset only. So i am unable to use PC Suite also. Please advise me how do i backup my phone, cos i have to format the phone.

When you installed PC Suite and connected the phone, did it say something like the PC suite on your phone needs to be updated? If so did you do this?

If you have done these things, and I know you say you have already deleted the programs, but I would remove both Ovi Suite and PC Suite, using Revo Uninstaller, then I would go to the device manager and remove the Universal Host Controllers inside the USB controller section, this will remove the drivers or at least their link, restart, and install whichever program you want to use, I prefer PC Suite 7.1.30.9, but this is up to you.

Also sometimes just a restart of the computer will allow the program to find the phone once again, so try this first, restart the computer, then start PC suite and then hook the cable to the phone and then the computer, select PC Suite on the phone and give it a minute or two, this does sometimes get it going again.

I one time had to restart a computer three times before I got the link back to a phone, so it's hard to say.

Uninstalling via the OVI Suite installer is not enough to remove all Nokia software from your PC. You ned to open Add/Remove Programs and look for all Nokia and OVI aplications and uninstall them one at a time. If you selected everything when you installed OVI Suite then you should see about 5-6 applications relating to OVI Suite and Nokia. To make sure eveything works correctly I would do the same now and remove everything Nokia via Add/Remove Programs. Everything needs to go before you try another install. It suond to me like it is a driver issue and may relate to apps that are installed during the OVI Suite install, but which are not uninstalled by the OVI Suite uninstaller. Check Add/Remove Programs.
