Today Nokia have released a new version of Nokia Messaging with HTML email support.

To get your hands on a copy you need to go to to as for some reason the version available via Software Update is v10.0.1(16) whereas the new version available from is version v10.0.1(13) and this version provides the HTML support

Other changes include the setting of the "Remove older than" field to 3 days, which is no longer changeable and the removeal of the size and file type limitation feilds for attachements in the "What to Sync" screens. Also aditional "When to Sync" options have been added in the form of sync every 15 minutes and 30 minutes. The previous minimum was 1 hour.

Pitty they still haven't enabled the emptying of the "Deleted" folder from any screen of Nokia Messaging as this is still a bit frustration for many. Also we still can't enable and disable specific mailboxes from auto sync which would be nice. But it's another step in the right direction.

Symabook S60v5 Facebook Application

I was browsing around the internet as usual when I noticed this new post from Symarctic. They are soon to release a beta version of a new Facebook application destined to result in the early demise of the new Nokia Facebook Widget on the N97.

Viewing this preview should get any Nokia S60v5 (N97 or 5800) phone owner who also has a Facebook account salivating uncontrollably. The navigation within Symabook appears completely new to Symbian phones and in my opinion is the way of the furture and could help the N97 well on the way to becoming an iPhone killer if other apps take this as a guide.

Can't wait for the early beta to release.

For more info head over to Symarctic BETA Website

[UPDATE - 02-SEPT-09]

The Alpha version of Symabook is now available from the Symarctic BETA Website

Nokia Downgrade Maps Applications for N97
Written by mbrett

You may or may not have noticed that yesterday the N97 disappeared from the download list over at Nokia Maps. Well today it has re-appeared, but with Nokia Maps 2 instead of OVI Maps 3.

This is probably due the large number of N97 users that have been cursed with loss of map data and poor GPS connection among other things since upgrading to OVI Maps 3.

A word of warning before downgrading as many have experienced the loss of their licences when downgrading from Maps 3 to Maps 2. The only way to solve this is long calls to Nokia care.

All we can hope is that the bugs will soon be ironed out soon and the N97 will regain OVI Maps 3.

[UPDATE - 02-SEPT-09]

Nokia have now upgraded the N97 back to Maps v3. I assume this means that the problems are sorted now with GPS degradation and data loss.

The New Social Way to Navigate
Written by mbrett
Thursday, 20 August 2009 10:34

With the many issues N97 users have been having recently with Satellite Navigation. Waze comes as a breath of fresh air or at least the promise of this software, soon to release for Symbian devices.

Waze is a social mobile application providing free turn-by-turn navigation based on the live conditions of the road. 100% powered by users, the more you drive, the better it gets. Join the community of drivers in your area today!

In other words you leave Waze running in the background when you are driving around and it logs the road you use and adds them to their database. Also if it knows the speed linit for a spercific road and you are doing consciderably less it will ask if you are in traffic and if you select yes this will be reported to other Waze users in your area. Basically it's a new concept for Sat Nav "By the People. For the People."

Some lucky members of the mobile comunity have managed to get there hands on a pre-release version to trial. One of these is the TheGURU over at and here is a link to his article.

Preview Of Waze Social GPS Navigation For Symbian

The band news is that at present it appears to be limited to the USA. Hopefully this will expand to the rest of the world in future.

I know I want to give a try if/when it releases in the UK. What about You?

Battery level indication is a long standing gripe for Nokia mobile owners leaving owners with no reliable indication as to how much longer their batteries will last.

The wonderful guys over at Capree have developed a solution to this in the form of iON Battery Tracker. Presently it is only available for Symbian Series 60 3rd Edition phones, but I have been informed that a S60v5 version will release in September.

Capree iON Battery Tracker

The main features of the application are:

  • Provides information about:
  •    Operating time remaining to complete discharge,
  •    Estimated future date&time of the battery being completely discharged,
  •    How long the battery holds its charge on average,
  • Numbers of full and partial charge/discharge cycles recorded by application.
  • Fast and handy access to remaining time at the home/standby screen.
  • Power saver with additional the ‘big’ battery levels percentages indicator, built-in system notifications (e.g. missed calls, messages, unread emails, current profile, keypad lock).
  • For more information head over to

This could be the "Must Have" for all Nokia mobile users providing more reliable battery and filling another little functionality gap.
