You may remember a post I made last month, which discussed the lack of stylus bundled with the UK model. The official Nokia N97 pre-order page doesn't mention a stylus and a Nokia rep reinforced this at a conference, where Nokia claimed the UK version won't come with a stylus.
I went in to Nokia's flagship store in Regent Street yesterday to pre-order my white N97. There were a few demo models flying around the store, all of which had a stylus attached to the bottom of the handset. I spoke with one of the reps and asked why the demo models have a stylus but the retail version doesn't. He told me all of the N97's come packed with a stylus.
I rang Regent street today, twice, and asked whether the N97 comes with a stylus in the box, both reps were adamant that it does. One rep said he had seen inside the boxes and they definitely DO come with a stylus. I find it bizarre that the official Nokia website doesn't list it under box contents. |

One of our forum users Stardustuk7 posted this ad of the Nokia N97 "Don't call it a comeback" featuring a tune from American rapper LL Cool J.
I'm not sure it's my favorite Nokia advert in the world but it has a certain appeal and it's bound to appeal to teens as well as fans of the Rap genre. The ad features the Facebook app, though not the home screen widget, which surprised me.
I don't know whether this is ever going to be aired on TV or whether it's just promotional material for Youtube. Either way, the more exposure the N97 gets the better.
When I went to the Nokia event in London a couple of weeks ago, we were shown a storyboard of their main ad campaign, I'm really looking forward to seeing it aired on TV. It will be interesting to see how Nokia turned the story board in to a finished ad. |

We're all looking forward to the full release of Maps 3.0, it's been a long time in the works. Nokia have released a new software called Maps Updater, which obviously updates your Nokia Maps, but it's surprisingly an .exe, which is a PC only file. But if you're like me, and own a Mac and haven't bothered with dual boot, how on earth do you get maps 3.0 on to your handset?
Well officially you can't. However, looking further in to the app, all it actually does is install a .sis file. With a bit of craft and trickery we've managed to intercept the .sis file, it's called Nokia_Maps_3.01_2401_5.0_u.sis. So if you're like me, and own a mac but keen to get Maps 3.0, I've included the file at the bottom of the post.
The process of getting the .sis file wasn't particularly difficult, but that isn't the point, is it? If you're curious as to how I got the file, I simply fired up Maps Updated on a PC, and as soon as it downloaded the update, before I clicked through to your device to proceed with the install, I searched the hard drive for new *.sis files and there it is.
I'm hoping Nokia release a Java version of the updater, so that we don't have to go through this process each time Maps is updated

If anybody has the 3rd edition version, please send it over to paul at n97geeks dot com :) |

Ricky from Symbian Guru has just notified me that Mobbler has JUST been updated and guess what? they've added support for touch screen phones, including support for gesture control.
Mobbler is a Last.fm player for Symbian devices. Last.fm keeps track of the music you listen to, known ’scrobbling’ it. You can scrobble your music from an array of devices from desktop to mobile. Last.fm has a community of millions.
The Nokia N97 version includes some neat features, such as being able to skip tracks by simply swiping the album art from side-to-side. Other features include the ability to set an alarm to get Last.fm to play at a set time and destination support. The Mobbler app runs quietly in the background of your series 60 device, reporting on your listening habits. |

A couple of weeks ago, Vodafone and Nokia announced at a conference that only the black Nokia N97 would be available at launch. At the time I made a prediction that the white N97 would be a network exclusive. According to Pocket Lint the Phones4u have the exclusive for 8 weeks.
The retailer will also be offering the black N97 too at launch. The N97 will be available for free on a £40 plus a month, 2-year contract with Orange, as well as a £45 a month, 18-month contract and for £100 on a £35 a month, 18-month contract. The latter comes with 600 minutes, with the other two offering 1200. 3000 texts come bundled with all the packages. |
