I'd like to let you know that the latest software update bricked my phone.

Today, when I manually checked the SW Update on my phone it showed two updates to be installed, a new firmware version and a "Install Before Phone Software 0.1" update.

So I installed the second one first and later the new firmware, the phone shut down, showed the firmware upgrade progress bar, later the phone screen went black and about 30 minutes later I decided to turn on the phone again, but it displayed only a flashing white screen or red/green/blue lines on the screen and powered off again.

I had to do the 4 button hard reset to get the phone working again with loosing all my settings, I checked SW update again and it showed old updates again (like OVI Contacts and Messaging) and also the "Install be fore Phone Software 0.1" Update again but no the new Firmware.

According to NSU my current version is 12.0.024 on RM-505 (german N97 from vodafone which was debranded from a nokia service shop).

At the moment I'm checking why some pictures do not work anymore on my phone mass memory, the hard reset is supposed not to modify the mass memory.

Very sad experience and I would like to warn you about this update.

Same here m8, bricked mine after updating from v11 to 12, except i laboriously downloaded all the necessary files/progs to the pc and re-flashed the phone manually, only to find later that all i needed to do was the 3-finger salute!

I updated to Firmware V2.0 yesterday. It all seemed to go well and the N97 seemed to be fine afterwards (all the applications worked, etc.) It wasn't until I made a call that I realised there was a problem. I can no longer make or receive calls! If I dial any number (from Contacts or using the Dialler) the phone says 'Not Allowed.' I've tried reloading the firmware but it hasn't helped. Texting works fine.

I tried a Restoring Factory Settings, a Soft Reset and then a Hard Reset but on all attempts the phone said 'End All Active Calls and Connections First.'

Does anyone have a solution?

I've been lucky up to now. My N97 worked fine (apart from the Nokia Ringtone' cropping up from time to time and previous firmware updates were fine. Please help.....as it stands I have a PDA that can send and receive texts.

I now have my N97 working as well as it has ever worked! Following my previous post (I had updated the firmware to V2.0 which was ok but I could no longer make or receive calls.) I fixed it as follows:

Hard Reset *#7370# (it didn't work straight away as each time I tried I got the message 'End All active calls and Connections First'. This can be cured by removing all widgets from the Home Screen (thanks to cgsuk for advising me how to do that!)

Having completed a Hard Reset I checked the firmware version on my phone *#0000# and found V2.0 was still installed.

I then restored my data to the phone from my Backup using Ovi Suite. Unfortunately this left me back at square one - unable to make or receive calls! The trick is not to restore everything.

Repeat the steps above until restoring from Backup. Check all items except 'device settings and applications' and carry out restore.

I did that and my phone is working perfectly. I have had to manually re-install my applications but everything is working fine.
