softblock? 2 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi, im new to this forum and not sure where to post this so im gonna post this here.

So I recently found out that the chinese version of N97(legit version) has a "soft-block" on the WiFi, and since i do not have a 3G network around my area it is really hard for me to get softwares and look at stuff online with my phone.

So i was wondering is there a way to get rid of this or a way i can actually change the whole phones system into the europe version?

Thanks in advance.

try looking at the process of debranding, this involves changing your product code and updating the handset to have "generic" firmware on it.

beware, many have done it, but it invalidates any warranty on the handset.

You can indeed change the product code and change the FW on the phone in this manner,(which as stated by dan, void the warranty) but the major problem you may come into is, Nokia phones are made specifically for China, so unlike the NAM, or Global version, the Chinese version is on it's own. So I am not sure if you can find a product code that would match your phone and allow this. If it were a Global or Nam version, I would say no problem, but you have some research to do, for your phone.
