That damn Nokia tune 2 Years, 5 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi everyone. Being a forum newbee I thought I would ask if anyone has the same problem. Even though my n97 is set to play the Tinker tune in the Default profile, the phone will randomly decide the Nokia tune!

Not the end of the world I will admit, but it's very annoying.

Interestingly it's not all the time and it's not with all contacts.

I thought the V12 update and a hard reset would solve the issue but it's still there.

Has anyone experienced the same issue? If so are there any top tips - apart from go back to my N95 8GB.

Many thanks

brianmilligan, Welcome to the Forum and Thanks for joining.

Yes, it is very annoying, and no you are not the only one, I actually think that v12 made the problem worse, as with v10 it happened a lot, then v11 I had it happen very seldom, v12 back to often again.

There is nothing that I know of to stop this from happening, it just randomly happens, hopefully it will be fixed with the next update.

Hope you have a good day and enjoy the forum.

Interestingly for me, the experience has been the opposite, I've so far not had the default tune play ever since I've upgraded to v12.

It might be worth taking the time to reiterate why the default tune will play...

1) When a call comes in, the phone immediately attempt to load the selected audio file.
2) If, for any reason, the file is not loaded within the alloted time (very short), it will play default. Reasons could include:
a) Processor was busy at the time
b) I/O was busy at the time
c) audio file is too large or complicated (size, type, bitrate)

Remember that the N97, because of the Home Screen, is probably multi-tasking more than any other currently shipping Nokia device.

v20 is now said to have improved performance which should remove 2a and 2b issues.

I've also found that with custom ring tones, it helps to have the file in Phone Memory C:.

Thanks to all for your replies.

I think the processor makes a lot of sense and would explain the randomness (if that's a word) of the Nokia tune.

I tried to find the Nokia tune on the c:\ drive but struggled to located it. Can anyone recommend a good file manager app and where the default tune is? I think I might delete it.

Many thanks

xplore by lonelycatgames is a good freeware explorer if you need one.

i would advise not to delete the tune if you find it, as the phone is obviously having issues with your selected tone, and defaulting back. if you delete it, then the pnone might not even play anything at all...

had a quick look for the tone too and couldnt locate it, so suspect it is hidden away in the protected system files somewhere, oh and my phone is hacked too, so a search should have found it.

xplore isn't freeware. It's demo software to a degree. For freeware you need something like Active File from www.alietan.com or Y-Bowser from www.dryukka.com
