Hey, so I've seen a youtube video where the guy covers the proximity senor and if you touch the screen you can't open any programs it's like a screen lock.
So I've tried this and I could still open programs even I have the proximity sensor covered with my finger.
So what is wrong with it?

Are you sure he wasn't using some 3rd party software on his phone?
Can you post the YouTube video address.

it's only meant to work when you make a call! That's the only time you need it

Nothing is wrong with it.
jeff is correct, and it also only works if you do not have a headset of any kind hooked up at the time of the call. If you have a bluetooth headset or wired headset hooked up it will not work, because it does not expect you to place the phone next to your head. This feature is designed purely to prevent you from accessing different screens while talking on the phone and it against your ear.

Well, I tried calling a friend of mine and I've blocked the proximity sensor with my finger or a piece of cloth or so and I still can press other buttons on the screen. Or should I really really have my ear to the phone that it'll actually work? Cause I still think that my finger could count as my ear since it just cover over it like my ear does. So what's the deal with it?

I had a friend calling me today and i remembered this post and tested it out and I can confirm that if you are in a call you cant use your phone if you hold over the sensor.
I dont have any special app for it and i havnt changed any setting.
